June Happenings.

It's a cool day here in Eastport. Damp, overcast. I don't mind. The suet blocks last longer in the cool air. I wouldn't bother putting any out this time of year if not for the hairy woodpecker that pleads with me in that squeaky toy sound they make when he sees me. He'll land inches from my hand, waiting. I expect he has a young one to feed.
I feel nostalgic for my lovely yard I had in St. John's. Created with much love and toil and the offerings of plants and trees from many friends. I am happy that I was able to build a small refuge behind my apartment here. I can gaze out my window, listen to birdsong and watch hares and grouse and all sorts. My small perennial beds look lovely when in bloom. As I write this the starling fledglings are trilling like mad for food.

There is a persistent gull that hangs around most of the day lately. I had to use a metal clip to attach the suet feeder to the shepherd's hook. Silly bird wastes a lot of time hoping to get at food when it should be out on the water finding stuff. Opportunists! The lot of them. Apologies for the terrible photos. I am using a 15 year old camera with a messed up lens.
It's a balancing act:

It's almost the end of June. From now until July 1st I am offering a give away for any purchase of $200 and over from my Smalls gallery.
You can choose from the two pieces below as a free gift.
"Where did I leave them" is a mixed media piece measuring 8 by 8". Cradled board.
"Black Sun" is acrylic on 6 by 6" gallery wrapped canvas.
UPDATE: Black sun has been taken
